Feminists in relationships !!

Relationships !

When it comes to relationships feminists are seen as people who do not understand how relationships work. Some say feminists are more likely to be lesbians, well thats not true!

We all see relationships at different perspectives,a feminist would tell you that in a healthy relationship there should be mutual respect, communication, one partner who compels the other partner's strength,a partner who does not doubt his/her partner's courage or toughness, who does not believe his/her partner naive or innocent !

Many people are in relationships that are unhealthy but they are not aware of that !

Take a look at how things should be...

Old fashioned tradition
   (before feminism)
  • He goes to work-She works at home
  • They both work so they both rest
  • He pays the bills
  • Death(survivor takes all)

Dumb version of feminism
  • They both work
  • She rests at home-Hes working on the garden
  • He pays the bills
  • Divorce (it will come to it)
Feminism in relationships
  • They both work
  • Their motto is "if I have to do this, you do that"
  • They both pay the bills
  • Divorce- "You get what you put"

Which one is fair ?I'd go with the third one simply because I believe in equality, especially in a relationship.

Another thing I find hard to understand is the fact that men seem to love bad girls more than  nice girls. But when I look at it,it is as if men also wonder why girls walk all over "nice guys"!!

The thing is with nice people;
  1. They say YES all the time
  2. And they strive to please
Now "we" good girls have some ground rules that need to be followed at all time ...
We tell our significant other NO when its a NO !,We are not afraid to challenge our partners when necessary. Now thats how feminism is about girl!

Lastly, one thing you should not forget is that even if you say NO people will still like you, infact they may like you even more because they know you are not a pushover !!

You may find this video interesting if you agree with me!

How girls are raised !!

It is not a secret that some men are INTIMIDATED by women!

Let us look at how girls are brought up!

We live in a society where there are stereotypes and gender issues, and believe it or not these may lead to women abuse…

Eastern Cape is one of the provinces where women are brought up differently. We are raised to be wife material, good cooks and dishwashers. Seriously,I am starting to believe that people think women were born with a cooking gene! this is funny because you will notice that the MAJORITY of chefs in restaurants like, Mc’ Donald’s , Spur ..etc, are men! so,how does this work exactly? How come our parents see it as essential for us girls to learn how to cook,do laundry and wash dishes?.Is any of this fair?...I believe it is not ,because I believe that women are and should be treated as potential intellectual equals and social equals to men.
This should be a “Let’s take turns” task.

At home,I would sometimes hear Dad ask, “Do I have to do the ironing myself, aren’t there girls in this house?” and I would look at him and think, why can’t his question be something like…”Do I have to do the ironing myself,Aren’t there children in this house? ..at least  I would have a better understanding.

But,who am I to question all these things?.In our parents eyes it’s disrespectful to ask such…

East London has so many taxi ranks and not a single day have I seen a woman driving a taxi!
See what I mean ?

Where I am really driving at is the fact that we cannot deny that a waiter or a waitress does not treat men and women the same, that a car guard would expect more money from men than women.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie says in one of her quotes "We raise girls to cater to the fragile egos of men, We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We tell girls 'you should have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful, otherwise you will threaten the man..."

Here's a video of her getting into details about how girls are brought up !
